The Grinch strikes back?
May 27, 7:30 p.m. — 3200 block of 59th Drive East. Burglary to unoccupied structure. Unknown person(s) entered the victim’s storage warehouse by unknown means. Once inside, the person(s) stole about $50,000 in Christmas decorations. The decorations are used by the victim’s business — By Design LLC. It is unknown who may have burglarized the warehouse.

Beware garden gnomes with lawn clippers
June 1, 11:12 a.m. — 5000 block of Flagstone Drive. Complainant said someone walked into his yard and cut the electrical cord to his landscape lights. The cost to replace the wire was estimated at $104. There are no suspects.

2:50 p.m. — 8330 Market St. (Publix). Uttering a forged bill. An unknown suspect reportedly passed an altered bill to one of the cashiers. The bill was really a $5 bill, but it had been altered to a $500 bill. The suspect then fled in an unknown direction by unknown means.

You’re waiting for whom?

8:32 p.m. — 8400 block of South Tamiami Trail. Resisting Arrest and Trespassing. A discount-store employee asked for the sheriff’s office’s help in getting a woman out of his store. She had been there for several hours and said she was waiting for George Clooney and Pete Townshend. When deputies tried to escort her out of the store, she resisted and had to be handcuffed. She may have been waiting at the store for a long time. What are the odds that both Clooney and Townshend walk into a Sarasota discount store at the same time?

Secret agent foiled on Longboat?
10:44 a.m. — Off the Key. Boat Burglary. A man told police that someone broke into his anchored sailboat and stole his laptop computer, a power inverter with three fuses and a backpack that contained his British passport, birth certificate and several government papers. James Bond told police he needs to have his passport replaced as soon as possible.

May 16, 12:38 a.m. — 3800 block of South Tamiami Trail. A person called the police department to report 50 or 60 teens in 15 or 16 cars were fighting behind a car wash. Fifty to 60 people in only 15 or 16 cars? Sounds more like a clown convention.
